Keynote: How to do academic networking

It has become difficult to do networking because of the long quarantine period for COVID-19. The MIRU2022 might be the first in-person conference for most of you guys. And some may wonder how you can, or even if you need to, do networking.

In this time, three professors who are good at networking beyond affiliations will give us talk about academic networking via panel discussion; how they have done networking and how good the network is.

We hope this Young Researchers Program helps you to start making a new generation of “WAKATE”! And now, it is time to take over “WAKATE” from # Self-claimed_Young_Researchers!

Speakers

Facilitator: Fumio Okura (Head of MIRU2022 Y.R.P.)

Introduction

When starting research, one often starts with a “research survey” to understand existing research and then decide on a specific research direction. However, there are many more soft-skills very valuable for research, which are often not understood well.

Therefore, in this MIRU2022 Young Researcher Program, we will carry out a survey on “other than research” soft-skills.

Example topics:
  • How to proceed with research
  • Time management
  • Project management
  • English learning skills
  • Mental care
  • How to write a paper
  • Grant and funding application skills
  • Presentation and PPT skills
  • Tools

The plan

From registration to program start

When registering, you need to select up to three topics you are interested in (or suggest your own). We will select the most popular topics for the program.

Program start to MIRU2022 Main Event

We will divide participants into smaller groups based on their topic interests. Each group will work on one survey and be assisted by one of the MIRU Young Researcher Committee members. A survey method is not just reading books or websites but also asking questions to professors, aka ex-young researchers.

MIRU2022 Main Event

On Sunday, July 24th in the afternoon we will have a chance to meet each other in person before the main event starts. On Monday, July 25th, there is a survey oral presentation session planned for the morning.

Registration form

The registration takes place through this Google Forms. After applying, the committee will check it and send you and invitation.
